Just as in other forms of poker such as Five Card Draw and Seven Card Stud, Texas Holdem uses a hierarchy of ranks to decide which player wins a hand. Although each player can use seven total cards, 5 community cards on the board plus 2 hole cards, the top five cards are what are used in play. Not only are there ranks between hands, there are ranks between cards. For example, any King is a higher ranked card than any 10. Suits are not considered in terms of ranks. This is important in the cases of a tie. |
